In conclusion, this study shows clearly that, related to the methodological strategies applied. ceramides combined with other skin lipids in the same ratio as found in human skin barrier, exert positive results on skin repair after damage. Not all types of formulations, however, are effective. Careful galenic preparation is the basis of efficient products. A complete mixture of barrier lipids exerted more beneficial effects on the TEWL of SLS-irritated skin and on the SC hydration of acetone- exposed skin than those observed for ceramides alone. When using preparations with an uncompleted mixture of barrier lipids, more negative than positive effects were exerted on skin barrier repair.
